Ivan accepts briefs in all areas of commercial litigation. Ivan has over 15 years of expertise in:

  • insolvency (including public examinations, voidable transaction claims, winding ups, bankruptcies and all forms of external administration);

  • banking and finance law and security enforcement; and

  • corporate disputes (including oppression proceedings, shareholder disputes, derivative actions, valuation disputes, ASIC prosecutions and directors’ duties cases).

Ivan is also experienced with property disputes, retail and commercial leasing, fraud matters, Australian Consumer Law and guardianship matters.

Before coming to the Bar, Ivan was a partner in the dispute resolution team at Gadens.

Ivan has wide ranging advocacy experience across both State and Commonwealth Courts and Tribunals. He has appeared in numerous trials, interlocutory applications, injunction hearings, pre-hearing conferences, mediations and directions hearings. Some of the reported matters which Ivan has appeared in are:

  • Australian Executor Trustees Limited v Kerbage (Residential Tenancies) [2020] VCAT 169
    (Mortgagee application for possession of tenanted property)

Ivan was recommended as a leading insolvency lawyer by Doyle’s in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2020. He was also named in the “Best Lawyers in Australia” in the area of banking and finance law for each of 2016 and 2017.
